AbstractDue to an intense urbanization process occurring in Brazil, indicated by a strong population increase in the cities, with serious impacts on environment and quality of life, there is a growing demand to develop and use methodologies related to new information technologies which would allow faster decision taking by city planning institutions. This paper presents spatial inferences from two quarters of Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais State Capital) based on topographical, geological and geotechnical data as well as on the municipal Legislation for Parceling, Occupation and Land Use, as well as on the analysis of a Quickbird satellite image. Based on such information, those areas of hazard for construction purposes, are indicated for the two city quarters under study, namely Belvedere and Buritis.
